ABOUT BILLIE MADLEY

Billie Madley is a multidisciplinary artist using popular culture and style as her medium. A mixologist of high- and low-brow performance and style, her work straddles the fashion, art, and theatre worlds.

As a performance artist, she performed all over NYC then The UK and Germany. Her work as a burlesque artist is considered, by many , to have been the first breath of the current burlesque movement (1992)…. A graduate of the
Meisner technique acting (Richard Pinter of Neighborhood Playhouse) went on do theater in NY…, and create and produce projects including “Cinema” and “Girlstown” (off-Broadway) , receiving Critic’s Pick Timeout, Village Voice, Backstage, and The New Yorker 1996, 1999, 2004. She has been the subject of documentaries for HBO. the BBC, and can be seen in Jill Morley”s film “Stripped”..

Using herself as subject, her self styled image has been used in advertising campaigns, books, magazines, and CD covers. Works using Madley as subject have hung in galleries including the Museum of Modern Art MOMA in nyc, also exhibited in the mens toilets in the Bloomingdale’s nyc SOHO location.. Photographed by many notable photographers including Bunny Yeager, Terry Richardson, Ellen von Unwerth. and collaborated for years with Richie Fahey , depicting Characters she created for stage and print, Also cartooned in the New Yorker magazine. And the cover of Timeout London

She has contributed as editor and stylist to numerous fashion magazines, including I-D, The Face, Blitz (UK), Vogue (Australian), Petra and Tempo (Germany), and Interview in London and the U.S… Written for the Village Voice.. Worked trend forecaster and consultant to designers in the fashion world and contributing styles for Sarah Jessica Parker in the “Sex and the City ” films I and 2
